Xbox 720 E3 reveal confirmed by Square Enix?
E3 2013 looks set to be a hell of a lot more exciting than this year’s non-event – early signs point to a next-gen reveal at the LA trade show.
Rumours after this year’s show suggested that the plug was pulled on an Xbox 720 reveal at the last minute, though sources are already suggesting that the next-gen tech won’t suffer from another attack of stage fright next year. Speaking with French fan site FFDream, Square Enix’s worldwide technology director Julien Merceron revealed that the firm plans to show more of its Agni’s Philosophy tech demo – the Final Fantasy teaser made to show off the new Lumious engine – at E3 2013 and, more interestingly, that it won’t be running on PC when next we see it.
Of course, there’s no direct link between his vaguely-worded revelation and a new Xbox – it could be that Final Fantasy will be returning to its long-term home on a new PlayStation platform, or even that the Wii U is secretly harbouring enough processing muscle to make with all that pretty. Of the bunch, though, a new Microsoft console seems the most likely proposition – between several sources suggesting the hardware was already ready to be shown this year, the handful of reported ‘Durango’ debug units that have popped up on eBay in the last few months and the sheer visual splendour of recently announced games like Watch Dogs and Star Wars 1313, it’s been clear for a while that the big reveal wouldn’t be far off.
E3 is set to take place 11-13 June 2013 though with most of the trade show’s big announcements usually leaking early, expect to get your first glance of the real next generation within the next six months.
