Why Is The Final Fantasy 8 Promo Site Still Alive?
It’s a weird, wonderful time capsule into Final Fantasy’s esteemed past
…but that doesn’t stop it being an example of how bad web design used to be.
It does, however, offer some insight into the development of the game – the site states it cost 3 billion Yen (roughly £16,000,000 before inflation) to develop, with a staff of over 180, and a dedicated team of 35 for the FMVS.
The most interesting byte of information, though, comes in the section where the game talks about why the delay between Japanese and European releases was so long… the site claims that (aside from the usual localisation woes) it was due to the removal of a Nazi style uniform in the game… something we’ve never heard before.
We’re trying to figure out exactly what that would be right now – it could either be the standard uniform of the Galbadian military (which are modelled after the German nation anyway), or maybe secondary antagonist Seifer Almasy’s default costume:
But we don’t know.
Have fun browsing the site!
