VGX Roundup: What Games Will Be Shown At VGX?
The VGX awards will be happening 7 December and that means we will be seeing new footage from a host of already announced games and a few announcements for new games, too.
Without further ado, here are the games you will be seeing come Saturday and details of the rumoured announcements that will take place during VGX.
VGX: Which Games Are Confirmed?
The Division was one of the highlights of this years E3 and we now know that the online multiplayer shooter will be on show at VGX.
It’s nice to know that we won’t just be seeing one of those boring CGI trailers when it comes to The Division; VGX host, Geoff Keighley has said that the footage we will see at VGX will be in-engine. That’s what we like to hear.
Continuing in that vein, The Witcher 3 will have a shiny new trailer shown at VGX and, again, Keighley has confirmed that the trailer is composed of entirely in-game footage.
We’ll also be getting a look at something we haven’t seen before in the form of gameplay footage for Xbox One exclusive Quantum Break.
Quantum Break was revealed at E3, but we didn’t actually get to see any gameplay, or indeed, details of exactly what the game is, though, we do know that Quantum Break will merge TV episodes with its gameplay, allowing actions in the latter to effect the former.
More details on exactly how that will work will hopefully become apparent at VGX.
Another Microsoft exclusive, Titanfall, will be on show. We don’t know exactly what we will be seeing, although developers Respawn have teased that it will be “something new” and “surprising”.
South Park: Stick of Truth was meant to release this month, but with the game now delayed until next year, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone will be showing up at VGX to give us another look at South Park: Stick of Truth.
Nintendo’s Reggie Fills-Aime will be making an appearance at VGX, so it seems we are also going to get something Wii U related to sink our teeth into.
As to exactly what Reggie will be showing, well, now we are straying into speculation territory. Speaking of which…
What New Games Will Be Announced At VGX?
There are a number of rumours floating around about new games that will be revealed at VGX, some more likely than others.
Keighley has been teasing potential reveals of new PS4 games, saying that “Sony has lots to show” and tweeting that, “to all the PlayStation fans tweeting me about VGX world premieres, we hear you!”.
Naturally, this has led to some speculation about more details being revealed regarding Uncharted 4, though, with Naughty Dog only recently releasing a teaser for the game it would seem a bit too early to show much more of Uncharted 4.
With Square Enix, things are a little more certain. Square Enix has revealed that they will be showing off two new trailers at VGX, via Twitter.
It seems likely that one of those will be for Tomb Raider on PS4 and Xbox One.
This could be a full blown sequel given that Square Enix has confirmed that Tomb Raider 2 is in development for PS4 and Xbox One.
There is another explanation, however.
A Tomb Raider Definitive Edition was recently listed on Amazon Italy and, when asked about the listing by DualShockers, Square Enix replied, “It’s so hard to keep a secret these days! We appreciate all of the enthusiasm, however we don’t have any details to share just yet. That said, we highly recommend you keep an eye on any major gaming events happening in early December”.
That would be VGX, then.
As to the other game that Square Enix will show, it seems likely that is will either be the upcoming Thief game, or, perhaps, the PS4 version of Final Fantasy 14.
Who knows, it could be something new altogether.
With rumours about a possible Fallout 4 reveal circulating online, some fans will be hoping that Fallout 4 makes an appearance at VGX.
Bethesda do have a track record of using VGX to announce big games – they did it with Skyrim – so it is possible, though there’s little evidence to make that assertion with any certainty.
