Using A Gun Won’t Even Be An Option In Mirror’s Edge Catalyst
One of the greatest challenges of the original Mirror’s Edge was an achievement called Test of Faith, which asked that you go through the whole game without shooting a single enemy. It was the purist’s way to play, but now it’s something that DICE will be enforcing in Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.
“In Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, you won’t be using any guns at all,” senior producer Sara Jansson told Polygon. “We’ve completely removed that aspect of the game. You can’t even pick them up.”
While gun combat was one of the weaker aspects of the original game, being given the choice was still interesting. Is this a good move for the game? Perhaps one positive is that it will make the focus much more on movement and melee combat, the cooler aspects of the game. But Jansson had one other thing to add on this subject.
“When Faith is in flow, when she stitches together move after move without failing and keeps her momentum going, she’s actually invulnerable to bullets. That can keep her out of harm’s way. It’s only when she stops that she can get hurt.”
Invulnerable to bullets? A mechanic that encourages risk-taking from the player or a silly break from logic? We’d like to hope it’s the former.
