This Week’s Game Releases
'Yee haw' and all that other cowboy noise. It's a bumper release weekend, as some game called Red Dead Redemption hits the shelves. Anyone heard of it? Apparantly it's about cowboys and stuff…
Red Dead Redemption
In case you haven't heard, Rockstar's Wild West opus Red Dead Redemption is a superb, authentic take on life in a rapidly evolving America in the early 20th century.
Here's what NowGamer's Dan Howdle called it, "A technical marvel and a terrifyingly engrossing experience. The wild west game the world has been waiting for." Read his full, rootin' tootin' review here.
Seeing as Burnout has gone all open-world, leave it to the highly talented Black Rock Studios to keep the pure, unfiltered arcade racing vibe alive in Split/Second Velocity. It takes racing and destruction and smashed them together in a beautiful orgy of mayhem.
X360's Steve Burns said, "To watch the game is to be engaged by it, and to play is to be instantly charmed by its focused appetite for destruction." Read his full review here.
ModNation Racers does for kart racing what LittleBigPlanet did for the platformer. It's possible to make massive, complex racing circuits in under five minutes. United Front Games should pat themselves on the back for delivering this insanely addictive and charming experience.
Play's Jonathan Gordon was also lost under its spell saying, "Even just as a karting game it puts the likes of Sonic to shame. But ModNation offers SO much more." Read his full review here.
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
It's not a movie tie-in, it's a superb hark back to the original Sands of Time trilogy, with all the same platforming and time-bending goodness you knew and loved back in the day.
X360's Simon Miller really enjoyed the game. He said, "Admittedly it has little competition on the 360, but this is easily the finest platformer on the console and a touch of genius in its own right." Read his full review here.
There you have it, this Friday is more than just Red Dead Redemption after all. Which games will you be spending your hard-earned pennies on?
