The Forgotten Games Of E3 2014
There are a ton of games being shown off at E3 this year, and some are bound to fall through the cracks. What are the forgotten games of E3 2014 that deserve to be talked about?
The reveal of the new Zelda game for Wii U got people (justifiably) excited, as it looks utterly wonderful and the concept of a truly open world Zelda game is phenomenal. But lost among all this is the other new Zelda game, the Dynasty Warriors spin-off Hyrule Warriors.
Dynasty Warriors is a franchise that tends to divide people, but Omega Force’s take on the Zelda series looks like a fresh and fun spin on the standard 1 vs 1000 concept. The chance to play as characters like Zelda and Midna is awesome, and Link has a snazzy blue scarf to go with his classic green duds. We can’t wait for this one.
Bloodborne has gotten everyone talking. The new PS4 exclusive from the minds behind Dark Souls looks just as moody, atmospheric and incredible as the series they are known for, but another game heavily inspired by the Souls series has been forgotten in the process.
Deep Down is a free-to-play PS4 exclusive RPG from Capcom that shares some clear similarities with From Software’s masterpieces. Some would argue perhaps a few too many similarities, but even so, Deep Down looks like a fun (and free!) game that deserves your attention.
When is the last time Nintendo made a shooter? Splatoon is a multiplayer third-person shooter, albeit one without a military dudebro
(or bullets) in sight. Players control human/squid creatures, facing off in two teams of four, who have to splatter the environment with as much ink as possible – whoever makes the most mess wins.
It’s full of innovative little twists on a familiar formula, with players turning into squids to swim through ink quickly and recharge their guns. The more we see of Splatoon, the more interested we become. This one could be really fun.
Lara Croft And The Temple Of Osiris
Rise Of The Tomb Raider got a big announcement at Microsoft’s press conference, but there is another Tomb Raider game in development alongside it. Lara Croft And The Temple Of Light was a great downloadable co-op adventure, and The Temple Of Osiris opens things up with support for four players at a time.
The first game flew a bit under the radar, but those who played it know how fun it was, and as such the sequel will hopefully be just as good. if you’ve got three friends to play with, this should be on the top of your “to watch” list.
Nobody makes action games as good as Platinum Games does – fact. Scalebound was announced at Microsoft’s press conference as an Xbox One exclusive, a big coup that should be sure to attract some hardcore gamers to the console.
Unfortunately, we only got a CG trailer with no gameplay or idea what the game will be like and as such, people have already stopped talking about it for now. The idea of Platinum making a game where you punch dragons in the face is plenty enough to get us excited, and we can’t wait to see more. Platinum can do no wrong, as far as we are concerned.
The first Magicka was a hilarious and fun co-op action game on PC only, and as such might not be well known among console gamers. With the announcement that developer Paradox Interactive has entered into a deal with Sony, Magicka 2 is now coming to PS4 as well as PC.
Why should you be excited? Magicka is one of the most enjoyable co-op experiences we’ve had in games over the last few years, and is consistantly hilarious to boot. This is a fantasy game with a Vietnam War expansion pack, after all. Details on Magicka 2 are scarce for now, but you should be excited for it.
Two former Journey developers – yes, that Journey – unveiled their next game at Sony’s E3 conference, Abzu. Unsurprisingly, it’s a trippy indie game, with you the player swimming peacefully under the sea alongside a bunch of beautiful marine creatures.
We still don’t know much which might be why Abzu has been overshadowed by other, louder games, but if its anything like Journey then you’ll have to play it yourself to ever really “get” it. It looks just as beautiful and emotion, that’s for sure.
