Sony ‘Investigating’ LG Situation
PlayStation 3s entring Europe were seized last week following a ruling by the civil court of justice in the Hague. LG sought an injunction on the sale of the consoles following litigation regarding an alleged patent infringement. The injunction will last at least 10 days.
LG declined to comment saying: "As a matter of policy, LG Electronics does not comment on pending litigation."
Sony meanwhile told us it was looking into the matter. "We are investigating the situation, but cannot comment on it at this time," the firm told NowGamer.
Tens of thousands of PS3s have already been confiscated in the Netherlands according to the Guardian, which adds that Sony imports 100,000 of the consoles into Europe each week.
If the PS3s Blu-ray drive is found to infringe LG's patents, Sony may have to compensate the rival manufacturer. The two firms are already embroiled in previous litigation, with Sony seeking an injunction against LG's smartphones in one case.
