SimCity ‘Checking For Updates’ Fix & Server Status Update
SimCity has been plagued by issues during its launch – a side-effect of the always-on server structure, we’d fathom – but there are fixes to some of the issues its been having.
The most noticeable one is SimCity becoming stuck on the ‘Checking For Updates’, which does have a fix. Additionally servers are being patched and fixed, which are reported as they are.
We’ll update this story with more information as we have it. If you have other, less common problems then let us know below and we’ll try and ask EA for a response.
LATEST UPDATE: 8 March 2013 – 10:29 AM
SimCity Checking For Updates Fix
If you are stuck on ‘Checking For Updates’, EA claims you can fix the issue by deleting your SimCity user data. These details were given:
If you have a desktop shortcut you can right click the icon and select PROPERTIES then delete all files in the User Data folder.
If you launch through Origin go to C:Program Files (x86)Origin GamesSimCitySimCityUserData and delete all files in the User Data folder.
Then run the game again and you should get past that screen.
Note: The recovery tool will not resolve this issue, so please use the directions above.
SimCity Server Status Update
At the moment many Oceanic servers are still at full capacity and players are struggling to join. EA and Maxis are adding more servers and increasing capacity, but are urging all players to try other servers if possible.
The SimCity Twitter has been discussing the server issues, and states “We are working on the servers 24/7 – expect performance fluctuations. Our fans are our number one priority. Thank you for your patience.”
Here’s a list of server updates from EA as they happen:
