Shenmue 3 Kickstarter Needs $10 Million For ‘Open World’
When Shenmue 3’s Kickstarter was triumphantly announced at E3, it rocketed towards its funding goal of $2 million faster than any other campaign in Kickstarter history.
Since then? Things have slown down thanks to a lot of confusion, misreporting and arguing.
There was much chin-stroking and pondering over why Sony let Yu Suzuki have the stage during its E3 conference and the theory that followed was that Sony would be funding the game, with the $2 million Kickstarter goal simply being proof of demand. However, Yu Suzuki has since stated that the primary source of funds will come from the Kickstarter backers, with Sony providing some investment and marketing.
During a Reddit AMA, Suzuki also stated that “if we reach the $5 million mark, one of the things I really want to do with Shenmue 3 will become a reality. At $10 million, it will truly have the features of an open world.”
Shenmue 3 will happen regardless, as the Kickstarter has hit its goal – but what form the final game will take and what features it will have depends entirely on how much money the Kickstarter campaign hits by its close.
