Ratchet & Clank Will Be Game Of The Year 2016
JUST LOOK AT IT
Sunset Overdrive was awful, right? We can all agree on that. Yeah, it was nice that Insomniac signed that exclusivity deal with Microsoft and everything, but come on – no-one’s talking about it anymore, it received tepid (at best) reviews and it’s all but disappeared from the charts. Stick that up your arsenal.
Now, Insomniac is no stranger to ludicrous shooters with stupid enemies and a weird protagonist – it’s been making Ratchet & Clank games for years. Thing is, we reckon Sunset Overdrive was just an excuse for Insomniac to expunge all its fluff – to bleed out all of its obnoxious stupidity before it comes to the real deal™.
Ratchet & Clank. 2016. A new one. Featuring Captain Quark (the best name for a captain) and the mismatched sitcom protagonist duo. It’s got a suffix, too, like all the old Ratchet & Clank games – The Game Based On The Movie Based On The Game. HAHAH, how meta is that?!
We jest, we are actually very excited for it. The in-engine trailer (below) is mouth-watering: the best example of a 3D action platformer you could ask for this generation. It’s clearly taking tis cues from the very first (and best) R&C game, with elements of the following two titles in there as well. If there’s upgradable ships and space combat… we think we might actually die.
The art direction goes back to that semi-cartoon thing Crash Bandicoot and Spyro The Dragon had going on back in the PSOne days, and is probably the closest we’re going to get to anything like those games in the foreseeable future. If you check out the top gameplay video, too, you’ll see that there’s a gun that turns your enemies into pixels. Pixels! In 2016. Hahaha.
So, in April next year, we’ll have Uncharted 4, Street Fighter, (probably) Dark Souls III and God knows what else that’ll be announced at E3. But we all know what the real game of the year will be. It’ll be this. Because no other game has a character called ‘Abercrombie Fizzwidget’ in it, ahahahah. It’s PS4 exclusive, too, but you know – everyone’s going to buy one to play it so that’s a moot point.
