Rage: id Wants To Make Rage 2, 3 ,4
Rage will bring back id Software’s distinctive brand of shooting action when it launches on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 7 October – but will we see the game become an on-going franchise? Rage Creative Director Tim Willits is keeping his fingers crossed.
“Boy I hope so!” he told NowGamer. “Please god let it sell well so I can make Rage 2 [laughs]. Right from the start we wanted to make a universe that was deep, and rich enough to flesh out as a franchise. The iPhone app was created as a marketing tool to help get the word out, but that’s only a small section of what Rage is.”
Rage could support multiple sequels, spin-offs and franchise extensions according to Willits. “We expanded the franchise further when we worked with Dark Horse on a three-part comic book series set ten years before the events of the game, that sets up the resistance, the mutants, and the Authority. Ultimately, when Rage ends, there’s enough there to set up a Rage 2, 3, 4 and so on.”
