Quantum Break has big names, shattered time and guns
Check out the latest trailer for Quantum Break, the time-bending shooter from Remedy. The title was shown off at Gamescom yesterday, and in a surprise change it now features the faves and voices of some big names in TV and movies.
Shawn Ashmore (best known as Iceman in the X-Men movies) as Jack Joyce, while his brother William Joyce is played by Dominic ‘I was totally a hobbit’ Monaghan. Meanwhile, Game Of Thrones fans will recognise Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger in the hit show) as Paul Serene, the evil genius of this particular piece.
The complex story has only been hinted at in the trailers we’ve seen, but we have managed to gather some details. It appears that William managed to create a time machine, and travel back in time with Paul, but in doing so the pair broke time itself, causing pauses, fractures and glitches. William was killed, and his brother Jack wants to know why. Jack has been affected by the time machine just like Paul, giving him the ability to bend time and use it to aid him in his plight.
Story will be told through sort of living flashbacks, as time jumps back around Jack and he sees the past unfolding around him. The mechanic looks incredibly cool, but this isn’t Quantum Break’s only storytelling trick. It also features a live-action ‘TV show’ built into the game. The gameplay will focus on the ‘good guys’ of the story – Jack and his allies – while the live action show will tell the story from the point of view of the ‘bad guys’.
It’s a really cool idea, and now that we’ve seen the game in motion we’re excited to see how it will work. The game’s release date has been confirmed as 5 April 2016 – but if you manage to build a time machine before then, you can always play it early…
