PS4’s DriveClub Officially Delayed
It was recently rumoured that DriveClub would be delayed from the PS4 launch to sometime in 2014. That rumour has now been confirmed by Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida.
Posting on the official Sony blog, Yoshida revealed the “difficult decision” to delay the game, adding that it would be pushed back until “early 2014” – no specific date or even month was given.
DriveClub was planned as a PS4 launch game and even expected to be the first PS Plus game with the free DriveClub PS Plus edition.
That will, obviously, no longer be the case.
The replacement for DriveClub on PS Plus will be Contrast, a unique puzzle platformer that utilises shadow as a key mechanic.
While there’s no doubt Contrast will be an enjoyable addition to PS Plus for PS4 gamers, it’s nowhere near the same as having a retail game for free – which PS Plus subscribers have come to expect over the course of the service’s life on PS3.
Yoshida adds that DriveClub’s delay will be ‘worth the wait’, but with so few exclusive launch games available for the PS4 will this affect gamers decision on which console to buy?
The Xbox One launches a week after the PS4 in America on the 22 November 2013 and a week before the PS4 in Europe, and will come with Ryse: Son Of Rome, Forza 5, Dead Rising 3 and Killer Instinct as exclusive launch titles.
The PS4 will only have Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack as first-party exclusives, however the likes of Warframe and a myriad other smaller, digital titles will be – initially at least – exclusive to the platform on launch.
