‘PS4 Substantially Better Than Xbox One, Even After DX12 Upgrade’
Stardock CEO Brad Wardell has commented on the future addition of DirectX 12 to the Xbox One and what it will do to improve the console’s performance.
On the one hand, Wardell seems to think that DirectX 12 can be the answer to some of the Xbox One’s woes when it comes to resolution, something that the machine seems to struggle with in comparison to the PS4.
“One way to look at the Xbox One with DirectX 11 is it has 8 cores but only 1 of them does dx work. With dx12, all 8 do,” said Wardell, via Twitter.
“I think it’ll make it easier to have games run at higher resolution and have more objects on screen at once,” he continued.
However, Wardell also indicated that DX12 will not be some kind of magic elixir that will see the console suddenly outperforming the PS4 in response to a question about whether the PS4’s API is not fully utilising the PS4’s cores.
“I’m afraid not,” said Wardell, “the PS4 hardware is substantially better overall though”.
Of course, there’s no way to really know what kind of impact DX12 will have on the Xbox One until it’s released.
If Wardell’s comments can be believed, then it seems DX12 won’t provide a miracle jump in performance. If it can improve the performance of the Xbox One in any fashion, though, that can only be a good thing.
