PS4: Sony Wants To Bring Rust Beta To PS4
Rust creator Garry Newman has recently been talking about the possibility of bringing Rust to the PS4 and Xbox One and said that this may be some way away due to the fact that Rust is currently in early access on PC.
However, Sony has moved to encourage Newman to bring Rust to PS4 by pointing out that paid betas are possible on the PS4 and, therefore, there’s no need to wait until the game is finished.
Newman confirmed that Rust developers Facepunch have access to both PS4 and Xbox One dev-kits, but said, via Twitter, “neither have an Early Access program afaik – so anything we do is a while off.”
However, Sony’s Adam Boyes has pointed out that’s not quite true and that Rust could come to the PS4 earlier than Newman has suggested as a paid beta.
“Garry – at PlayStation we allow paid Betas. Dust 514 was in paid beta for 1+ years!,” said Boyes, via Twitter.
Sony has had a lot of success attracting indie developers to their consoles and it looks like they want to continue in that vein by tempting Facepunch to bring Rust to PS4 sooner rather than later.
Whether Sony’s friendly reminder of the possibility of a PS4 beta will change Facepunch’s plans as regards to Rust on PS4 remains to be seen.
