Phil Spencer isn’t bothered by Street Fighter 5 exclusivity
Xbox One owners received a critical blow at the weekend, as Capcom announced Street Fighter 5 would be heading to rival platforms as an exclusive title.
It’s a shame – but Microsoft’s Head Of Xbox Phil Spencer isn’t concerned. In fact, he would rather the studio continued to invest in their own IPs, where possible.
“Business deals happen. We won’t do all of them. When we have a first party franchise in a genre I’d rather invest in ours,” Spencer said on Twitter.
Spencer is of course referring to Killer Instinct, the fighting franchise Microsoft acquired with the purchase of Rare way back in 2002. Season Two came out just a few weeks ago from Iron Galaxy Studios – the team behind the insanely fun DiveKick.
This means we will only likely see Microsoft invest in areas where their portfolios are lacking in the future. We saw this recently as Microsoft plugged the action-adventure sized genre hole with Rise Of The Tomb Raider. So, what next? Send your best guesses over to Twitter.
