Official Nintendo Belly Warmers Are Weird
In Nintendo latest effort to fight back against naysayers criticising the company’s lack of originality, the Mario-fronted super-studio has collaborated with Earthbound creator Shigesato Itoi on a new project. Namely, a series of Nintendo-themed haramaki.
What’s a haramaki?! We hear no one in particular ask. Well, that’ll be a clothing accessory that sits comfortably on the waist – otherwise known as a belly warmer.
Usually the type of hilariously unfashionable item usually adorned by geriatrics, Itoi is fighting a one-man campaign to bring them back into the cultural zeitgeist.
Itoi’s company Hobonichi is manufacturing the products, with the new game-themed range marrying Itoi’s passion for fashion with his video game heritage.
Teaming up with Nintendo there will be three flavours released in Hobonichi’s summer catalogue. A Mario design, while the other two are Earthbound-themed.
