Oculus Rift: Virtual Reality Set For Comeback As Devs Triple Kickstarter Target
Oculus Rift, the first iteration of the virtual reality headset backed by John Carmack, Cliff Bleszinski and Gabe Newell, has smashed through its Kickstarter target in just one day, funding more than triple the $250,000 thanks to over 3,000 developers.
“All of us at Oculus are in awe of the support we’ve received. Surpassing our goal so substantially in less than 24 hours is very humbling,” wrote Rift creator Palmer Luckey.
The Kickstarter now has an FAQ regarding the prototype device.
“We’re attending a few upcoming trade shows including QuakeCon, Siggraph, and Unite to chat with developers and gamers about the Rift and show off the latest prototypes,” Luckey added. The headset will also be at gamescom.
The prototype VR device is aimed squarely at developers, who will be able to support the device with their games thanks to the Rift UDK – it should reach devs by December.
