Molyneux: Kinect ‘Biggest Innovation In 20 Years’
Kinect launches 19 November and has so far garnered a mixed reaction from gamers and critics. Some remain cautious about the so-called 'casual' launch line-up, while others have applauded Microsoft's approach to widening its audience.
Fable creator Peter Molyneux explained, "I think for certain people in the industry [Kinect] is the most wonderful thing that’s happened in the last 20 years, but for others it’s the worst."
"But if you accept that there’s a few things that Kinect does that are just wonderful: the first thing is the amount you feel involved and engaged with the world on the screen, because everything isn’t centred around, essentially, your two thumbs."
"The second thing is, you’re not limited by the number of buttons on a controller, but only by the human body. You haven’t got the language of ‘we can get them to tap, hold, and push forward.’ That’s our entire vocabulary. Now, we can get people to relax, get them excited, we can get people to get up and walk to the screen – it’s a much bigger vocabulary."
