Modern Warfare 3 and CoD XP: The Public Verdict
We’re at Call of Duty XP all this weekend in sunny Los Angeles, and this time we’ve asked attendees what they think of the expo’s first year, as well as the slew of fresh Modern Warfare 3 news revealed these past few days.
We’ve braved the busy central hall, the dusty sand and blazing heat of the outdoor areas and more, to find what the public has enjoyed most about the show so far, and what they make of Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer element. Here are the best quotes so far.
Are you having good fun here at Call of Duty XP?
“Yeah, I’m really liking the vibe. The whole place just feels like it’s got Call of Duty written all over it.”
“Oh yeah, it’s amazing. Just all of the stuff you can do here is great. Call of Duty forever man, it’s just awesome!”
“Definitely, I’m just really excited right now. We’ve been waiting for this for so long.”
“Everyone is here for the love of the game right? That’s why we’re here. I’ve loved the series since Call of Duty 4, so yeah, I’m having a great day right now.”
“Yeah, the place feels good. I’m excited to play Modern Warfare 3, and to play paintball in the Scrapyard, so yeah I’m just so excited. Also, I’m excited to eat in Burger Town too.”
“It’s pretty good right now, pretty awesome. I just can’t wait to play multiplayer, I mean the trailer was just amazing.”
What did you make of the opening presentation?
“It was one of the best presentations ever, and seriously, Eric (Hirshberg) destroyed Steve Jobs with his showmanship, and he really sold Modern Warfare 3 as just a brilliant game.”
“Oh yeah, it was a great presentation, but now I can’t wait for the game to come out so I can actually play it. We haven’t had time this morning to play it yet, but we’re going to hit the paintball first before we go back inside.”
“It was pretty badass. The guys on stage knew what they were doing, and everybody got really stoked. I think Eric was perfect, he nailed it, and told everybody what they wanted to hear.”
“It was epic. We were lucky enough to catch the whole thing. There was queues still coming in to the building while it was going on, so we were very lucky.”
What’s your impression of Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer from what you’ve played so far?
“It was pretty good. They mentioned a lot of new things at the presentation too, and a lot of surprising things that are going to come out in the future.
I just think they’re being pretty new and innovative with the killstreaks, and all those things. They’re just trying to give it a whole new feel, but I was surprised because it still has a ‘Call of Duty’ to feel to it, but it’s still something new.”
“It’s really nice man, with all of the different perks and killstreaks that just bring a different aspect to the game. I haven’t been able to spend too much time on it yet, but I’m one of those guys who spends a lot of time on the series so, I’ll probably do the same with this.”
“Yeah, I really like the game, but I just have to get more time with it to get better. It’s trivcky when we have to queue for so long to play for a short while, but it’s great. Definitely a step up from Black Ops.”
“I like the maps. I’m a fan of more symmetrical areas, and more open spaces. It means I can be a sniper or if, you know, I get bored I can go close range. The killstreaks definitely assist support players, and perks are the same. They kind of give each player their own flavour and let’s them play it how they want. It’s definitely the most user-friendly Call of Duty so far.”
How are you enjoying Call of Duty: XP? Would you come back to the event again next year if it happens?
“Oh yeah, I’ll definitely come out here again. For sure.”
“Probably. I just live down the street so yeah, It’ll probably happen anyway.” (laughs)
What about the news that we’re all getting a free copy of Modern Warfare 3: Hardened Edition?
“That was badass! I don’t think anyone was expecting that”
“Yeah that’s awesome, but I’m just trying to figure out where I have to go and claim my copy.”
“It’s amazing. It’s definitely made it worth the money to come out here, and Im glad they’ve had this event in the first place.”
The box set comes with a free year of Call of Duty: Elite. Will you keep on using it after the free year has run out?
“Yeah for sure, I’ll use it after I have to start paying for it.”
“Definitely. I’m going to get it and pay for it, once I have to.”
“I’m not sure right now. I mean, I’ll try it out because I’ve already pre-ordered the game, but I’m just waiting for it to come out. I’ll probably give my pre-ordered copy to my brother or something once my Hardened edition arrives.”
“Yeah, I probably will. I mean if we’re getting the game for free, it makes sense you know?I might as well spend my money on Elite instead of the game.”
