Mass Effect 4: BioWare Doesn’t Want ‘Another Shepard’
BioWare has confirmed that Commander Shepard won’t be returning in Mass Effect 4 and fans can look forward to meeting an entirely new character in BioWare’s next game.
Speaking to VG247, BioWare Montreal producer Fabrice Condominas confirmed that the studio was working on bringing a new character to the forefront of the Mass Effect series for the next installment.
“There is one thing we are absolutely sure of – there will be no more Shepard, and the trilogy is over.”
Condominas went on to explain that the BioWare was treating Mass Effect 4 as an entirely new beginning.
“This is really our starting point. Now the Mass Effect universe is vast, and very, very rich. So at this point in time, we don’t even know what kind of time frame we’re going to be in. All we’re doing is more gathering ideas from the teams, gathering feedback to see several things.”
Condominas also confirmed that BioWare was eager to leave behind Shepard and creatively move in new directions, adding that Mass Effect 4 will be very much its own game.
“We don’t want to make ‘Shepard 2′, or Mass Effect 4 with like, ‘oh there’s no more Shepard but you’re a soldier in the universe’. So this will be a very, very different context for sure, and nothing has been decided on the rest.”
