Mass Effect 2 Wins Best Game BAFTA
Mass Effect 2 has taken the prestigious Best Game BAFTA, beating Super Mario Galaxy 2, FIFA 11, Limbo, Heavy Rain and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood.
BioWare was unable to accept the award in person, an EA spokesperson accepted the award their behalf saying that 'the guys are back in Edmondton, ensuring that Mass Effect 3 is as good as this one.'
Heavy Rain was the night's other big winner, taking home a total of three BAFTAs: Story, Technical Innovation and Original Music. David Cage dedicated his Story award to his wife and children and to the "people of Japan".
In the other major categories, Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit won best Multiplayer, Codemasters' F1 2010 won in the Sports category, Civlization V took the Strategy BAFTA, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood won for best Action and Super Mario Galaxy 2 won for best Gameplay.
The first BAFTA ever awarded to an iOS game went to Cut The Rope in the Handheld category.
A Call Of Duty game won the Game award for the second year in a row, with Black Ops picking up the only award that's voted for by the public.
An emotional Peter Molyneux picked up the BAFTA Fellowship, from Sir Ben Kingsley, saying that it had been "an incredible journey".
Typically modest, Molyneux thanked the people he'd worked with over the years saying, "I'm just the idiot that stands there and says, 'lets make a game about a theme park or God or a dungeon', these are the people who have to make it happen."
He joins an exclusive list of developers that includes Atari founder Nolan Bushnell and last year's winner Shigeru Miyamoto.
