Ken Joins Street Fighter 5 Roster, But You May Not Recognise Him
Capcom has revealed the seventh character to join the Street Fighter 5 roster and while Ken may not be the most surprising announcement yet (it’s probably the least, actually), his new look and style have changed considerably.
Like everyone in SF5, he’s a fair bit older here than he was when we last saw him in SF4, now rocking a more sports-fighting look (no more red gi) and wearing his hair up. It’s not just his look that has changed, either – while we see most of his staples from flaming dragon punches to toe pokes, there are some new tricks on display as well. His V-Skill is a run that allows him to quickly close distance, continue mid-screen combos or cross under airborne opponents, while his V-Trigger adds even more fire to his special moves.
Interestingly, Ken also seems to be able to use his V-Trigger to cancel out of specials, just like using Focus Attacks in SF4 to cancel moves. No other character could do this in the build we played so if this is the case, it’ll be interesting to see if this is unique to Ken or a cool new system-wide change, but hopefully we’ll find out soon when the beta starts.
Here’s the reveal trailer so you can judge the new Ken for yourself – be sure to watch until the end for a tease of what appears to be a brand new character…
