Jet Ski Riders
We’ve already had Infogrames’ enjoyable Splashdown and now Eidos is about to give us a piece of watery racing action in the shape of Jet Ski Riders (formerly Wave Riders). So how does this square up to the competition? Not very well, to be honest.
The game features the Kawasaki licence, meaning that you get to speed around in various jet skis, over a series of marine environments. Initial impressions are quite favourable, the water effect looks convincing and elements such as incoming waves have been well-handled. Furthermore, all the usual play modes you’d expect from a title such as this are in place, with Arcade, Championship, Freestyle and a two-player option on offer.
Sadly, the handling of each vehicle leaves a lot to be desired, which can make races seem like something of a chore. Likewise, the stunts and tricks that you can pull off are fairly uninspiring and do little to encourage you to keep playing. You’d think that cruising around the fjords of New Zealand as you perform handstands and somersaults would be good fun. It isn’t. What’s more, in the races themselves the AI of the computer opponents is severely lacking.
