Is This The Best Assassin’s Creed Announcement We Could Have Hoped For?
There will not be a major Assassin’s Creed game released in 2016 and that might be the best news we’ve heard in a while.
Don’t get us wrong on this, we love a good bit of Creed, but getting a ‘good’ bit has been a little hit and miss over the last few years and the team has made the very sensible decision to hold off on the typical annual release.
So, rather than churning out another game in this series for an October release that ends up being buggy and under-tested, Ubisoft will be taking the year to review the game series properly.
“We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground,” says a statement from the Assassin’s Creed team.
While it’s surprising enough that a series that hasn’t missed a beat with its yearly releases recently would take a sabbatical, it’s doubly shocking given that the Assassin’s Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender is due out this year. It would seem like the perfect time to capitilise on the brand.
But if the team honestly doesn’t think it has a game good enough to do that, well done to them for making a call that puts quality over sales.
Besides, we’re sure there will be some form of bundled release of Creed titles for the end of the year, perhaps bringing some of the classics to current gen systems.
Either way, well done Ubisoft. We’ve never been so delighted by the announcement that we won’t be getting a game.
