Gearbox ‘Looking Into’ Explanation Of Why Aliens Was So Different To Demo
Randy Pitchford has tweeted that Gearbox is ‘learning many lessons’ following the Aliens: Colonel Marines fiasco and is ‘looking into‘ an explanation on why the final version is so different to the promising looking demo.
Pitchford, the president of Gearbox Software, is under fire for presenting a demo for Aliens: Colonial Marines that was both graphically superior to the retail release and featured content nowhere to be seen in the final version.
He has since been the focal point for those disappointed with the quality of the game (we gave it 5.0 in our Aliens: Colonial Marines review).
Some have also noticed that Pitchford is only addressing positive tweets about Aliens: Colonial Marines on Twitter, a point he’s now addressed.
“As a glass-half-full kind of guy, so I only want positive feelings with my personal twitter. Thanks for understanding! You’re welcome to say whatever you want, of course. Know that I will tend to block users who I believe are not offering value, but injury.”
When another tweet accused Pitchford of putting his fingers in his ears, the Gearbox chief replied: “No – we have countless paths for feedback and are learning many lessons. My personal twitter is my own. Also, blocked…”
One tweet said: “I think while vulgar criticism is unfair to you most people just want an explanation to why the game is so different to the demo” and Pitchford replied “That is understood and fair and we are looking at that. Lots of info to parse, lots of stake holders to respect.”
We’re not going to turn into Randy Pitchford watch but it’s baffling why he’s focusing on the nature of the criticism rather than addressing why the criticism of Aliens: Colonial Marines and how Gearbox presented it exists to begin with.
It’s his personal Twitter, of course, so he’s welcome to do what he wants. Ultimately though, we’re still waiting for one of the three parties involved with Aliens: Colonial Marines – Sega, Gearbox and TimeGate Studios – to explain exactly what happened with the troubled development of the project and specifically why the demo was so different to the final game.
