Evolve Survival Handbook: Part 3
KNOW YOUR ENEMY
While we’ve done our best to compile a comprehensive account of the Goliath, it often acts in surprising ways, like it’s acting with human intelligence. It’s that sentient behaviour that sets it apart from the other wildlife you will encounter during your time on Planet Shear. By slaying and devouring the local wildlife, the monster is able to gain enough strength to evolve. As it moves through its three-stage evolution process, the monster becomes more powerful and dangerous. Our scientists back on earth have also determined that the Goliath gains new powers as it evolves; gaining the ability to breath fire, charge quickly, rip earth from the group and hurl it at Hunters, and unleash devastating leap attacks. Sadly, there is no way to determine which power the monster has…
Unlike humans, the Goliath is able to pick out even the smallest sounds. That means if you think you’ve got the drop on it, you really haven’t. Be prepared to fight no matter the circumstances.
The Goliath has improved eyesight to that of a human, allowing it to see over greater distances. This is incredibly deadly when it scales mountainous regions, giving it incredible line-of-sight.
Make no mistake, you’ll be torn to shreds if you head into encounters half-cut. The Goliath’s claws will deal a hefty amount of damage to you, the Support’s Shield Gun is the only defence.
To progress through its evolutions, the monster must consume the wildlife. Its jaws can rip through pretty much anything, including you. If the monster begins ravaging you you’re pretty much dead – but don’t worry, we will replace you quickly enough.
We have identified that the Goliath does have a finite amount of health, which regenerates very slowly. This is, however, supplemented by a hard outer shell that re-grows as it eats wildlife.
The beast appears to have an incredible sense of smell, it’s heightened enough to detect what wildlife and Hunters are nearby. Tread lightly and leave the deodorant at home.
Using its powerful hind legs, the Goliath is able to leap great distances and scale pretty much anything. Surprisingly, however, it is also able to sneak to avoid detection. The crafty blighter.
THE MONSTER’S POWER EXPLAINED
The Goliath is able to tear huge lumps of earth from the ground and hurl them at you with devastating effect. Be aware, broken limbs are not covered under your Hunter health insurance plan. Neither are burns.
Third-degree burns are never fun, but imagine being burnt to a crisp and eaten by a huge monster. Not cool. Get too close and expect to see a fire show. It should go without saying that you should be avoiding the massive jet of flames.
The monster will often use this in both offensive and defensive ways. Regardless, if you’re hit with a charge attack, you probably won’t be getting back up. This can be a game changer against groups of Hunters.
You might be impressed with your ability to jump over small bushes on Shear, but the Goliath can launch itself into the air and literally crush anything below it. It’s deadly, and a horrible way to have your fight come to an end.
