E3 2014: What Games Will Be Shown?
E3 2014’s not long away now, with the press conference scheduled for 9 June already starting to roll in.
A slew of HD re-releases on PS4 and Xbox One have given some the the sense that ‘next-gen’ has yet to begin in earnest, so E3 2014 will be a particularly interesting one.
Hopefully, the games on show at E3 2014 will serve to convince us that next-gen is really here.
Games Confirmed For E3 2014
Destiny – We know Destiny will be on show at E3 2014 and, in more specifically, we know that Bungie will be showing off multiplayer. It said as much in their latest Destiny trailer.
Dishonored 2 – Okay, so Dishonored 2 hasn’t been ‘confirmed’ for E3 2014 per se, but we’re not prepared to believe that this Dishonored 2 image was a ‘leak’.
No, that was a deliberate tease and we’re going to take it as confirmation that Dishonored 2 will be on show at E3 2014. Mostly because we want to see it, damn it.
Legend of Zelda Wii U – Will a Zelda game for Wii U be shown at E3? Sort of. Nintendo has explicitly said that that we can expect news on a Wii U Zelda game at E3 2014, but it’s not actually going to be there.
As with last year, Nintendo will be holding an Nintendo Direct during E3. That’s where you’ll hear about Legend of Zelda on Wii U.
Major Capcom Game – Japanese site Sankei has reported that Capcom will be unveiling a major new title at E3 2014. What is it? We don’t know, though Resident Evil 7 is obviously a suggestion that’s been thrown into the mix.
Driveclub – This PS4 exclusive’s release date was recently revealed via a new Driveclub trailer. Evolution has confirmed that Driveclub will be at E3 2014 where it will be playable.
The Order: 1886 – After a recent gameplay taster of The Order: 1886, Sony has confirmed it will be demoing The Order: 1886 during a Twitch livestream, but it’ll likely be a focus of Sony’s E3 2014 press conference too.
Sony will also be on the E3 floor to show off many of its upcoming games for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita, with PS Vita stick-shooter Helldivers and quirky PS4 game Hohokum confirmed to be available.
We know Microsoft will be there (obviously) and while it will no doubt be showing off some unannounced Xbox One and Xbox 360 titles, it will be demoing Killer Instinct: Season Two, Sunset Overdrive, Project Spark and Fable Legends – while two unannounced games will be demoed during Twitch’s E3 2014 broadcast.
Star Wars: Battlefront 3 – EA has already confirmed that Battlefront 3 will be on-stage during its E3 conference, though what form this will take we don’t yet know.
Far Cry 4 – After officially announcing Far Cry 4, Ubisoft also revealed that we’d see gameplay footage of the game at this year’s E3.
PlanetSide 2 PS4 – SOE has confirmed that it will be bringing PlanetSide 2 on PS4 to E3 2014, but there has been no mention of how. It’s unlikely it will be part of Sony’s conference, but either way it will likely be playable on the show floor.
H1Z1 – And since SOE will already be there, it might as well show off its next MMO release, DayZ-alike H1Z1. Since the game is currently only available for PC, expect it to appear on that platform.
Crytek has announced three new games recently, so expect to see gameplay of Homefront: The Revolution from Crytek UK, co-op shooter Hunt: Horrors Of The Gilded Age and its take on the MOBA genre Arena Of Fate.
Microsoft has recently announced Forza Horizon 2, detailing off-road gameplay, Forza 5’s Drivatar system and a weather system – all of which will be shown off during E3.
MGS 5: The Phantom Pain – Kojima has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain will be at E3 2014, and he’ll be showing off a fair old slice of the game. Get excited.
Bethesda is at E3 2014, and while many are hoping for a Fallout 4 announcement the publisher has at least confirmed that it will be showing off its newly-announced arena fighter Battlecry and Mikami horror game The Evil Within.
Hotline Miami 2 is one of the games due to be shown as part of Twitch’s E3 2014 broadcasts, confirming that Dennaton Games will be at the show.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is planned to be showcased by CD Projekt RED; we could well see some direct gameplay finally.
The Crew – Ubisoft will be pushing The Crew in some form; expect to see it at Ubisoft’s conference and perhaps more over the course of the show.
Dying Light – Techland’s next open-world zombie slasher – is confirmed to have some gameplay demoed during E3 2014.
Deep Silver is publishing Homefront: The Revolution, and looking at the Twitch E3 2014 broadcast schedule suggests that – while Crytek will be there (probably demoing Hunt) – it is probably going to be Deep Silver showing off the new Homefront. It will have a second ‘unannounced AAA project’, which some believe will be Saints Row 5.
Lords Of The Fallen – This action RPG published by Namco Bandai could be a good one, and we’ll get to see it in action during Twitch’s E3 2014 broadcasts.
Four unannounced games from Nintendo are due to be aired on Twitch’s E3 2014 livestream, alongside a confirmed demo of Super Smash Bros tournament.
Evolve – 2K Games has confirmed that it will be demoing Evolve at E3 2014, and will even
Dragon Age: Inquisition – EA has already confirmed that Dragon Age: Inquisition will be at the show, and with it due for release later this year we can probably expect to see some gameplay during EA’s press conference.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel – Gearbox and 2K Games have already confirmed that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be at E3 2014 – likely to show off gameplay.
Civilization: Beyond Earth – Undoubtedly the most exciting upcoming game of the next few years (shut up, it’s true), 2K Games has confirmed that Civilization: Beyond Earth will be at E3 in some form.
The Walking Dead Pinball – Zen United will also be at E3 2014, showing off its recently revealed The Walking Dead Pinball table.
Games Rumoured To Appear At E3 2014
Just Cause 3 – After Square Enix registered a Just Cause 3 domain, speculation that Square Enix is getting ready to announce Just Cause 3 at E3 2014 has begun.
Final Fantasy 15 – There have been rumours that Final Fantasy 15 will form part of Sony’s E3 conference. Regardless, it seems likely that Final Fantasy 15 will appear at E3 at some point, whether this proves to be during Sony’s conference or not.
Bloodborne, Kill Strain & Oreshika – These are all videogame trademarks recently filed by Sony. There’s no information on the games that these might pertain to at this stage, but the very fact they’ve been trademarked has led to rumours that these are games to be revealed at E3 2014.
Sony Bend’s Game/Siphon Filter – A recent leak suggested that Sony Bend’s next game is an open world horror game, without zombies. Meanwhile a later rumour suggested Sony could unveil a new Syphon Filter during its press conference, and Sony Bend – back when it was known as Eidetic – is known for creating the Syphon Filter series. Could the two be related?
Guerrilla Games’ RPG – Killzone creator Guerrilla Games’ have been rumoured to be working on an entirely new game for PS4, with ‘Eastern influences’ and unusual beasts, such as robot dinosaurs. With all these rumours, it could be time for a reveal at E3 2014.
Project Beast/Demon’s Souls 2 – With recent leaks of Project Beast video footage, hype surrounding the potential Demon’s Souls sequel is at an all time high. A rumoured leak of Sony’s E3 conference, however, suggests that From Software’s next game is due for release during Sony’s E3 conference. Let’s hope so.
Rockstar’s Agent – After renewing its existing trademark very recently, could Rockstar be looking to officially unveil Agent (again). Rumour has it that Rockstar might be at the show, but we wouldn’t count on this happening.
Ryse 2 – Rumoured to be named Ryse: Knights Of England, Ryse 2 was one of the Xbox One games planned for reveal at Microsoft’s E3 2014 press conference.
Battletoads/Perfect Dark – Believe it or not but Battletoads was one of the rumoured games of Microsoft’s E3 2014 conference leak, with Rare apparently handling development of the game. We hope it’s true, but you never can tell.
Games Likely To Appear At E3 2014
Halo 5 – Microsoft teased a new Halo at last years E3, but we’ve heard nothing official on it since. It would be bizarre if we saw nothing of Halo 5 on Xbox One after last year’s tease and, indeed, Phil Spencer has implied that we could be seeing more of Halo at E3 2014 – that’s what we’re expecting.
Uncharted 4 – We know a new Uncharted game is in development for PS4 and we’ve been told by Naughty Dog to expect news on Uncharted 4 in 2014. If you want to reveal news on a game that big, where better than E3?
Call of Duty: Blacksmith – The next Call of Duty game, codenamed Blacksmith, is rumoured to be announced in May – in other words before E3. Whether that’s true of not, Call of Duty’s 2014 entry will undoubtedly make an appearance at E3 2014.
Tom Clancy’s The Division – There have been rumours suggesting that The Division will be delayed until 2015, though Ubisoft has indicated that the game’s set for a 2014 release. Going on that official information, it seems certain that The Division will be at E3 2014.
Assassin’s Creed: Unity & Assassin’s Creed: Comet – Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin’s Creed: Unity will release on PS4, Xbox One and PC this year. It would be unthinkable for them not to show off the game at E3.
Then there is Assassin’s Creed: Comet for PS3 and Xbox 360, a game on which Ubisoft has been less forthcoming. It’s been rumoured that Assassin’s Creed: Comet is set in Rome – we reckon we’ll get confirmation on whether that’s the case or not at E3 2014.
Gears of War 4 – E3 2014 might be a little too soon to see gameplay of the next Gears of War, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see a small tease from Microsoft, similar to what they did with Halo at last year’s E3, at the very least.
Mirror’s Edge 2 – Mirror’s Edge 2 was teased at E3 last year. All has been quite since then, but we think Mirror’s Edge 2 will reappear at E3 2014.
Mass Effect 4 – Bioware has been teasing a new Mass Effect, but hasn’t released much in the way of solid details. There have been rumours that Mass Effect 4 is scheduled for a Spring 2015 release. Whether that’s true or not, we reckon we could get our first look at E3 2014.
Quantum Break – This Xbox One exclusive seems likely to show up at E3 2014. Microsoft’s Phil Spencer has previously hinted that Quantum Break could be one of the Xbox One games getting a release date at E3 2014 – but developer Remedy Entertainment has already revealed that it won’t be showing off Quantum Break at E3 and will, instead, be at Gamescom.
Deep Down – The PS4’s free-to-play dungeon crawler Deep Down was first shown off in 2013. The game’s been pegged for a 2014 release by many, so we expect to see more of it at E3 2014.
Deus Ex – Eidos Montreal has confirmed that a new Deus Ex game is in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC, releasing a teaser image. Will E3 2014 be too soon for the new Deus Ex game? We don’t know, but we’re hoping it’s there, because we love Deus Ex.
The Last of Us Remastered – Naughty Dog eventually confirmed that the rumours about a PS4 version of The Last of Us were true and with rumours floating around about a 20 June release date, we expect to see The Last of Us Remastered at E3 2014.
Alien Isolation – We know that Alien Isolation is coming to PS4 and Xbox One in 2014, but not much more. We expect to see a little more of Alien Isolation at E3 2014.
FIFA 15 – It’s FIFA. It comes out every year. It’ll be at E3.
Super Smash Bros. Wii U – Nintendo will be holding a Nintendo Direct to coincide with the show. We expect to see Super Smash Bros. Wii U in some form during that broadcast.
