DS Software Pirated ‘238 Million Times’
The report in Japanese newspaper The Asahi Shimbum suggests that gamers are being desensitised to the illegal use of R4 cards because they are so readily available for purchase online.
Nintendo has suggested that the wave of R4 use sweeping Europe in recent months has resulted in a 50 per cent drop in official cartridge sales across the region.
The report reveals, "In June 2009, Nintendo monitored ten websites based overseas that allowed people to illicitly download game software, and found that software had been pirated a total 238 million times."
Shocking stats, but they prove how big a thorn R4 cards have become in Nintendo's side. With the report suggesting that similar card devices are now available for Wii and PlayStation consoles (they don't specify which versions) the problem may become worse.
