Does the Xbox One still need Kinect?
Microsoft has now released an Xbox One to shelves that does not include its motion control and voice command Kinect tech in the box. The controversial camera setup was a serious thorn in the side of many gamers, not least because it was perceived to be inflating the price of the console bundle.
But given how integral Kinect was to the design and navigation of the menus on Xbox One, was it the right choice to discard it from some SKUs of the console?
We asked the X-ONE community via Twitter, Facebook and our forum to have their say. Should Microsoft have released a Kinectless Xbox One? We were surprised by the response.
As you can see, the community leans towards backing Kinect, but it’s still pretty split. Here are some of the top comments we got.
The Kinect is totally necessary for Xbox One. It makes the experience. – @james11221999
Kinect is part of the XB1. It’s a symbiotic relationship pushing in a new era of interaction and control. #futuretech – @Steelshox
I didn’t see the point of it when I bought my system but now, after a couple of months, it’s growing on me. I use it far more than I expect to. So I must be a hypocrite! – Mark Aitken
The burden is on MS to prove that it isn’t a gimmick and has to stump up the games and functionality to prove it. – The-Marb
Kinect has been proven worthless. Never even use mine. It’s just a gimmick. – @Willowrpe
I hardly use my Kinect for Xbox one… other than FIFA for punishing me for shouting at the ref for his dodgy decisions. – Colin Scott
