Battlefield 4 Not Coming To Wii U, Console Not Supported By Frostbite
DICE had previously said that Battlefield 4 wouldn’t be coming to Wii U but the studio has now expanded on that reason – its Frostbite engine currently does not support Wii U.
Talking to Eurogamer, Executive Producer Patrick Bach explained why the studio’s engine does not have support for Wii U.
“The biggest problem we have right now is we don’t want to back down from what we see as our low spec machines,” said Bach. “We right now don’t have support for the Wii U in the Frostbite engine. The reason for that is it takes development time. What should we focus on to create the best possible Battlefield experience? We are now focused on PC and the current-gen platforms, and then there might be other platforms in the future that we can’t talk about…”
This means the chance of other EA published titles using the Frostbite engine coming to Wii U is somewhat ominous. The biggest confirmed titles thus far that use the engine (besides Battlefield 4) are Mass Effect 4 and Dragon Age 3.
