15. Going Back To Liberty City In GTA: San Andreas
CJ is offered a job in Liberty City quite far on in GTA: San Andreas. Tasked with taking out a gang of Mafioso, CJ flies over there to waste an entire café full of goons in one fell swoop.
After CJ flies over the ocean in his plane towards St. Marks, you quickly find out that you don’t have the whole of Liberty City to explore. But then again, the sheer scale of the game as a whole was a huge technical achievement back in the day.
Why it’s great
Because of what the moment signifies. The hit on the St. Marks Bistro is significant due to its ambition. San Andreas is already a vast game world, so adding a little slice of Liberty City on top – no matter how small it may have been – is impressive, and it serves to bring the whole PlayStation 2 trilogy full circle.
Finally, you get to see GTA III anti-hero Claude again. The fact that he’s still mute is pretty funny as well. Well played Rockstar!
