Zenimax Trademarks ‘Giant Monster News’, Is it Shinji Mikami’s Zwei?
Zenimax, the Bethesda, Id Software and Arkane Studios parent has trademarked something called Giant Monster News in the US.
Zenimax online is working on MMO The Elder Scrolls Online, while Bethesda has Dishonored and ongoing Skyrim content coming up – it currently has three unannounced titles in development – Doom 4 at id Software, and unannounced FPS at Machine Games and Zwei, Shinji Mikami’s survival horror title at Tango Gameworks.
Given the Japanese theme, if we had to pick, the term ‘Giant Monster News’ would appear to best fit the latter.
The name could be for a downloadable or online title though according to the description, with usage covering: “Computer game software for use with computers and video game consoles; downloadable computer game software offered via the internet and wireless devices; computer game software for use with on-line interactive games.”
Zwei was teased back in April as another Mikami survival horror game which he hopes “pushes the limits of fear and exhilaration”.
According to the Zenimax jobs page, Zwei (confirmed to be a codename) requires developers with experience in ” FPS / TPS and 3D action game” as well as “experience in network programming in real time game” and “physics engine” experience.
Meanwhile the resume of Tango level designer Justin Nesbitt mentions his proficiency in both Tango’s proprietary tools as well as Rage engine idTech 5.
Could we be getting a online co-op survival-horror game with giant monsters powered by idTech 5? Mikami’s twisted version of Monster Hunter perhaps? Fingers crossed some of those elements prove to be true.
Zwei currently has no release window.
