Xbox One: ‘Dropping Kinect Has Doubled Sales’ Says Microsoft
According to Microsoft, the decision to sell a cheaper version of the Xbox One that does not come bundled with Kinect has led to a large spike in sales of the console.
“Over the past month, we’ve seen a strong spike in interest in our Xbox One console options, including the new $399 offering, and the amazing lineup of games announced during E3,” said Microsoft on Xbox Wire.
“Since the new Xbox One offering launched on June 9th, we’ve seen sales of Xbox One more than double in the US, compared to sales in May.”
It’s not really that surprising that dropping the price of the Xbox One by un-bundling Kinect has led to more people buying the console.
Indeed, we said as much when Microsoft made the decision to sell a version of the Xbox One without Kinect, though we also said they the company has to work on their image, too.
It will be interesting to see the extent to which the Xbox One price drop allows Microsoft to close the gap on Sony and the PS4 in the coming months.
