Pictionary: Ultimate Edition Review
|
Ian Dransfield Can Pictionary: Ultimate Edition replicate the classic board game on Xbox 360? Find out in our review.Published on Dec 5, 2011 Another title to promote THQ’s uDraw tablet, Pictionary is the classic guessing game where someone draws a visual representation of a clue they’ve secretly been given and others have to guess it within 90 seconds. Ultimate Edition includes a few other modes and distractions along with the original, vanilla version of the board game. Pictionary does make some interesting demands of players, at least from a gaming perspective. There’s a lot of trust exercises here – ‘look away from the screen’ and ‘did you get it right?’ situations – all of which leads to a game where you can, essentially, scam your way to a cheap 1,000 Gamerpoints. If you wanted to, that is. If you’re playing with people who will actually look away from the screen, though, it’s all good. Otherwise, be prepared to argue a lot. Pictionary is functionally sound; it’s just a questionable release. There’s no need for it to exist in videogame form aside from the need to promote the uDraw tablet – and that bumps the price up to the point where it’s a waste of time. No argument against the game itself – it has its place in the world and can be maddeningly addictive in the right circumstances. It’s just impossible to recommend Ultimate Edition for any real reason.

Final Verdict
The game is Pictionary – you either care or you don’t. From a technological standpoint, uDraw works well, but might prove a bit too pricey for the casual market it’s aimed at.
