uDraw's Marvel themed drawing game draws in the comic book crowd.

Published on Dec 5, 2011

Here’s a confusing game – on one hand it’s a straightforward top-down actioner in the style of Marvel Ultimate Alliance. You walk around bashing enemies with a squad of three heroes selected from the likes of Wolverine, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America and… Squirrel Girl. It’s fun, if basic.

Then, of course, there’s the uDraw tablet element. For the most part this functions very much like a mouse; an accurate one, and one that allows solid control of the action, at least when the friendly AI isn’t being suicidally idiotic, which it does quite a lot.

However, it feels like a bit of a missed opportunity. There are times when you are required to actually draw shapes – a path of attack; a ‘sphere of power’, which is a circle that turns into a giant bowling ball; or a bomb – but, generally speaking, the peripheral is used solely as a mouse pointer. The artist side of it just feels a bit underplayed.

It’s a decent yarn, though, and the plot – Doctor Doom is trying to get into the real world to steal the very uDraw tablet you’re using – is a nice touch. It’s just a shame that the general experience feels like it could have been far more creative, instead of just falling back on basic, though fairly satisfying, smash-everything-up combat.

Final Verdict
A fun distraction and well put together for younger Marvel fans, Comic Combat just lets itself down by not pursuing the artistic angle enough.
