‘Wii 2 To Launch Before New Xbox’ – Analyst
Nintendo’s Wii 2 could launch in 2012 if Billy Pidgeon, senior analyst at M2 Research, is correct.
Speaking to NowGamer Pidgeon stated: “Nintendo Wii’s successor is likely to launch before the next Xbox. While Nintendo’s next console could be a 2012 release, 2013 is more likely, and I’m not expecting a next generation Xbox before Q4 2014.”
Coming off the back of a Linkedin advert from Microsoft looking for people to, apparently, help with its new machine, Pidgeon doesn’t think we’re on the verge of a new system just yet.
“As for a next generation Xbox, recruiting talent to create and build the hardware has to take place years before a development kit is available, and developers would need a least a year to eighteen months lead time to market release to create games for the launch window.”
Out of all three platform holders it stands to reason Nintendo would make the first move given how much of a jump could be made from a successor at this point.
With that said, however, it seems unlikely Nintendo would want to dampen the 3DS’ early release period, meaning an announcement may not be planned for E3 at the earliest, if not later in the year.
