Valve Console: Latest Job Ad Confirms Interest In Hardware
Valve’s rumoured ‘Steambox’ was a hot topic a couple of months ago when rumours suggested the Half-Life and Portal developer was looking into hardware technology.
A job posting over on Coroflot has been posted by Valve Corporation and claims it is looking for a Principal Industrial Designer.
“We’re frustrated by the lack of innovation in the computer hardware space though,” says the job description, “so we’re jumping in.
“Even basic input, the keyboard and mouse, haven’t really changed in any meaningful way over the years. There’s a real void in the marketplace, and opportunities to create compelling user experiences are being overlooked.”
The job entails working alongside other engineers and designers who are “busily defining new entertainment experiences through both hardware and software.
“We’re hoping to add your expertise in product design and manufacturing, ergonomics, usability, aesthetics, and surfacing to our team.”
Beyond that there’s no other details about what the job might entail, other than Valve are making hardware and they want someone to help them do it.
The post even refers to Valve’s lack of hierarchy, claiming “We post jobs on the internet with titles and descriptions as guidelines to help people understand whether they’d likely be a fit for Valve but it’s important to know that once you’re here we’re going to throw all that away and let you tell us what your actual job should be.”
