THQ Studio: Dev Costs ‘Biggest Industry Issue’
Homefront is slated for a 2011 release and developer Kaos spoke to NowGamer today about development. Set in 2027, the game follows the plight of an America under siege by invading North Korean forces.
Homefront senior level designer Zach Wilson expressed concern over the spiralling cost of developing triple-A titles. Wilson explained, "The rising cost of game development for sure. You asked a couple of times about the increase in processing power; every time power increases the cost to make assets for those systems increases."
"It requires more people taking longer to reach “AAA” quality," Wilson continued, "If things continue to trend the way they are trending right now, you won’t be able to make a game of acceptable quality unless you have a 300 man team of specialists using high end data acquisition tools. A lot of developers are in a position where they have to sell X million copies of their title to stay afloat."
