Thorvalla Kickstarter Rides The Success Of Project Eternity
We’re fast becoming experts on Kickstarter: we’ve seen enough projects to know how they turn out and, as much as we hate to say it, it looks like Thorvalla won’t make it.
Thorvalla is a top-down RPG from veteran game developer Guido Henkel. It’s a name you might not recognise, but he’s worked on some pretty classic titles: Planescape Torment, Neverwinter Nights and Fallout prime among them.
So there is an element of prestige involved here, but even still it’ll be hard for fans to overcome the apparent cynicism of the project: there’s no gameplay, very little art and even the pitch seems to ask too many questions.
The heartless part of us is worried this is a cynical Kickstarter set up in the wake of the hugely successful Project Eternity.
It’s clear G3 Studios isn’t trying to make a fast buck, however. There’s a lot of depth to the world it has created – and everyone loves Vikings! – but if it hopes to raise the hefty $1,000,000 it needs to have more of Thorvalla to show off.
With Kickstarter, good intentions is rarely enough.
While a lot of questions are still left unanswered by this Kickstarter project, what we do know is that the game – despite being an isometric RPG – will actually be inspired by collectable card games.
The pitch also references Guido’s Realms of Arkania, stating that its travel system will be one of the most important part of Thorvalla with countless things to do while explore between locations.
It does sound like an interesting project that classic RPG fans will really want to pay attention to. If you backed Project Eternity, we urge you to keep an eye on this one.
