The Last Of Us Remastered Improvements & PS4 Features Detailed
The Last of Us Remastered will be released for PS4 on 30 July. In the lead up to that release, Naughty Dog has moved to provide some detail on exactly what the differences between the PS3 version of The Last of Us and its PS4 remake actually are.
In a series of Twitter posts from a Naughty Dog presentation, spotted by NeoGAF, Naughty Dog talked about the graphical differences between the PS4 and PS3 versions, as well as stating that The Last of Us Remastered will use DualShock 4 specific features.
The Last of Us Remastered: Graphical Improvements
Starting with the graphical improvements, Naughty Dog confirmed the following regarding the The Last of Us Remastered:
- 1080p/60fps in single-player and multiplayer
- Texture maps are 4x more detailed, shadow maps 2x
- Higher resolution particle effects
- Occulsion mapping on decals
- No texture streaming
- Longer draw distances, better LOD
The Last of Us Remastered: New Features
Aside from graphical improvements, Naughty Dog said that The Last of Us Remastered will add some new features.
Most notably, The Last of Us Remastered will make use of the DualShock 4’s touch pad, light bar and speaker. What exactly it will use them for, we can only guess.
It’s also nice to know that people will have the option of swapping the function of the triggers in The Last of Us Remastered, now that we don’t have to deal with those rubbish PS3 ones.
Players will have the option to lock The Last of Us’ frame rate at 30fps, which presumably means there could be some frames dropped while running it at 60fps.
The Last of Us Remastered: What Content Is Included?
Naughty Dog clarified that The Last of Us Remastered will include:
- The Abandoned Territories, Reclaimed Territories and Left Behind DLC
- Grounded difficulty
- Cinematics commentary from Neil Druckmann, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson
It’s also nice to hear that any content purchased in the PS3 version of the game will carry over to the PS4 version of The Last of Us.
Furthermore, Naughty Dog said that it has plans for additional add-on content in 2014, though it did not elaborate on what that entails.
