Skyrim: Bethesda Details Random Events
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim already has a release date of 11 November, but Bethesda hasn't shown too much of the epic fantasy RPG – until now.
Speaking at a Bethesda event last week Howard said: "We have a couple of designers who are just in charge of ‘world interactions’ or random things. You drop a sword, the story will see that as an event, thanks to the radiant [story scripting] system, and then if somebody nearby likes you, maybe they’ll come and give it back to you."
Howard offered an example, hinting at more to come during E3. "Once I dropped a sword on the ground just to look at it and this guy walks past, picks it up and says ‘here you go…!’ These guys also set it up so when wolves hunt, they hunt in packs. If they kill something, like a mammoth – and we’ll chat more about these at E3 – they’ll hang out by it for a while."
Will Skyrim give Red Dead Redemption a run for its procedurally-generated money? Check out everything else Howard had to say here.
