Shadows Of The Damned ‘Not Too Out There’ – Suda51
Shadows of the Damned, the survival-horror collaboration between Suda51 and Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, pits players as leather-jacketed anti-hero Garcia Hotspur (seriously) against a plethora of colourful demons. Hotspur's sidekick is a skull that forms numerous weapons.
Suda51 told NowGamer that the development team didn't want the game to be too over-the-top, however. “We question constantly whether it’s revolutionary or not and we always talk about new ideas when they come around with everyone, including EA," he said. "We don’t want to be too out there, but we have to strive to make it unique and that’s a good balance to aim for. EA has been really understanding of what we want to do as we’ve been working together.”
Suda51 added that the game grew more weird as development went on. “They really welcomed the pitched as they were looking for a new type of game," he said of publisher EA. "It actually, at first, wasn’t as crazy as it was now. I don’t think they expected it to be this crazy!”
Suda51 added that it was down to Mikami to decide if game ideas were to edgy for inclusion.
