Rumour: Gears Of War Kinect In The Works
Epic Games and Microsoft are planning to reveal the title at the Spike TV Video Games Awards next month, IGN has reported, citing a 'reliable source'.
Although the report doesn't confirm whether Kinect-functionality is to be shoe-horned into Gears 3, or a separate game, Epic's design director Cliff Bleszinski has since tweeted "No Kinect in Gears of War 3," suggesting that, if the rumour has legs, it would relate to a brand new title.
The report also says that Microsoft is planning on announcing "some big action games" at the VGAs including new Kinect titles.
Back in March, Bleszinski bigged up the potential of Project Natal as it was known then, saying: "The kind of game that I think would be most interesting is a hybrid, maybe something where I’m playing with a controller and then your significant other can sit on the sofa and do gesture-based things, and the two characters kind of interact that way so it kind of bring's the hardcore and the casual together in a compelling fashion.”
Microsoft also referred to future Kinect hybrid titles at the peripheral's launch.
Speaking to NowGamer about Kinect in June, the Epic designer said: "If we’re in a situation where MS says ‘we have this new tech, you should stick it in your game!’, and we just say fine and implement with, ‘look, I chainsaw you now’, gamers are going to smell it a million miles away."
Bleszinski also confirmed that the tech "intrigues" him and offered a potential feature for core Kinect titles: "Kinect also supports voice, right? You could command your troops, you’re a guy with a sword and magic abilites, and then you say to your troops ‘go forth, drive your enemies before me and hear the lamentations of their women’, and then they do it. It’s a matter of finding the right creative solutions."
Last month Lionhead's Peter Molyneux demoed Kinect project Milo at Epic Games.
