Verdict
It's all in the strategy...
The words ‘Charming’ and ‘Hexagonal tile turn-based strategy’ don’t usually go hand in hand, but Greed Corp is an exception, combining welcoming visuals and tone with some fairly deep strategising. Against the standard allegorical backdrop of a war for territory, Greed Corp introduces some interesting additions to the mix, not least the aesthetics which look as though they would be more at home in a children’s cartoon, with cutesy units drawn in chunky colours. However these appearances are deceptive, and Greed Corp boasts some thoughtful strategic mechanics that tie into the story: in this particular landgrabbing conflict, harvesting the land gives you gold to buy other units, with the standard paradigm of more harvesters= more profit in effect.

Kind of Hungry Hungry Hippos for grown-ups.
The twist is that using these harvesters lowers the height of the tile it is on and surrounding tiles by one every round, eventually cracking the tile and making it, and whatever units are on it, fall into the ether below. It’s an intriguing concept, leading to all manner of stratagems designed to balance between keeping the cash flowing yet keeping mission critical land.
Final Verdict
With a four-player mode and an involved story, it’s a worthwhile purchase for armchair commanders, but casuals may be turned off by the poor tutorial and cluttered interface. 7.1/10

Steven Burns
A self-confessed videogame addict, I find myself spending all of my hard earned cash on various games related paraphanalia, that and lamenting the lack of a Shenmue III. When not moaning about that fact I can usually be found either in the pub or hunkered down in 360 Towers finishing the latest issue.
