Verdict
Come back Pong, all is forgiven!
Along with boiling an egg, making a halfdecent tennis game must rank as one of the easiest tasks in the world. Yet having played Yeh Yeh Tennis, you’d be convinced otherwise. On paper everything’s in place. Let’s see… you’ve got a court, a net, some rackets, even some balls – so everything’s fine, yeah? NO. Everything is not fine – far from it, in fact. The moment you actually start playing you’ll suddenly realise that beneath the cartoon (I wannabe Anna Kournikova’s Tennis so much) visuals lurks a game so unplayable that you’ll start to question your faith in humanity.

The biggest problem undoubtedly lies in controlling your player. Serving in itself is tricky enough, but actually trying to return a ball is an exercise in futility: the lag time between pressing a button and actually performing the stroke is enormous. As if to compound things, your repertoire of shots is practically non-existent. Consequently, frustration soon becomes plain apathy.
A circuit mode has been included which allows you to compete in various Grand Slams and tournaments, but the likelihood of anyone bothering to play this for more than ten minutes makes this somewhat redundant. Likewise, the multiplayer mode fails to generate any excitement. Instead of being bored on your own, you’ll be sat there with three equally depressed mates. Put simply, this is a real dog of a game.
Final Verdict
If you fancy a bit of videogame tennis then pick up a copy of Namco’s excellent Anna Kournikova’s Tennis – it beats this turgid effort in straight sets. 3.5/10
