Verdict

This is well recommended and could see a PAL release under the name Felony 11-79: 2 if we are lucky.

Joyriding is wheelie good fun!

The premise is simple. Drive from A to B in the quickest time possible. Anything that gets in your way can be destroyed and the more things you destroy the better because you get money for your troubles. If you imagine the driving section of Die Hard Trilogy given its own spot light then you’re some way to knowing just how Runabout 2 works.

Choosing from a selection of easily recognisable cars you then head out into the streets. The handling of the cars is spot on with enough momentum and resistance behind the wheel to give that required edge of realism. The cities are also vast and everything is up for destruction… everything! Cafes gently lining quiet back streets are reduced to a pulp and more extravagant finds like an aircraft hanger can be just as amusing. A problem we do have though is one that hampered the otherwise perfect Driver from GT Interactive. You can’t run people over! They hop in front of you like they’re on pogo sticks and if you happen to get too close the swines disappear, even if it means walking through walls! Shame.

Besides this picky pedestrian pulping gripe Runabout 2 is well executed, the cites are animated to Die Hard standards and each of the cars is a joy to drive… until they’re reduced to scrap that is.
