After seeing this game for £15 on Steam with 4 months subscription, I couldn't resist and had to purchase it. After the download, you get taken into the team registration and creation process, and it was here that the story of Liverpool FC Legends began.
After forming the team, I was given the huge amount of £500,000 to spend on recruiting the best players that money could buy. Obviously with this amount you won't be starting out with Fernando Torres up front and Lionel Messi in midfield, but the players you can buy have decent enough stats to give you a fighting chance.
From here it's on to the main part of the game - playing matches. You can challenge anyone who's online, or you can use the Match Finder which will attempt to automatically pair you with someone else based on the criteria you specify.
You can then enter leagues and cup competitions, in which you have a certain amount of days to play all of your matches, and can play each match at any time in the specified period.
Outside of matches, you can train your skills, which help you unlock new tactics, discover more players or boost your existing squad's skills in training. If you find you don't particularly like your current squad, you can also acquire more players by bidding for them in wage auctions or attempting to transfer them from rival teams.
The whole experience works really well, from the way you get little popups telling you if a goal has been scored in a match involving one of your friends, which you can then click on to view said goal, to the gradual unlocking of new possibilities through the skills system.
However, the game has one problem, and it's a big one - there just aren't enough players. Each "Gameworld" consists of upto 1000 players, the one I'm currently in has approximately 850, but I've only ever seen about 150 of these players maximum online at one time - so completing required matches becomes difficult if your opponent is never online when you are.
With an expanded userbase, this game would be brilliant. As it is, it falls short of greatness due to there being times when there just isn't anyone online to challenge and you're left with the "Well what do I do now?" question.
