Activision Profits Up 700 Per Cent

The publisher has bucked the industry trend to thrive in the second quarter
Activision reported a jump in net income from $28 million during the same period last year to $195m, while revenues increased from $352m to $1.04 billion, driven by titles such as Prototype, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, as well as the continued success of the Guitar Hero, Call Of Duty and World Of Warcraft franchises.
“We have delivered better-than-expected financial performance”
Activision Blizzard CEO Robert Kotick said: "Since our merger one year ago, we have delivered better-than-expected financial performance for four consecutive quarters. During a challenging economic climate, Activision Blizzard grew its quarterly North American and European market share 2.8 points across all platforms to 12.7 per cent from 9.9 per cent for the previous year.”
Despite the sales potential of upcoming titles such as Modern Warfare 2 and Guitar Hero 5, delays to StarCraft II and Singularity led the company to adjust its projected revenue for the calendar year 2009, from $4.3 billion to $4.05 billion.
