I am thrilled to work with such a dynamite production team to bring this project to the big screen
“Partnering with Sam Raimi exemplifies Legendary's mandate of marrying the highest quality intellectual property to world-class filmmakers,” said Legendary’s CEO Thomas Tull. “Sam's passion for 'Warcraft' is undeniable and we know that he will create an incredible film worthy of Blizzard's phenomenal franchise."
Raimi described the franchise as "a fantastic, action-packed story,” adding: “I am thrilled to work with such a dynamite production team to bring this project to the big screen.”
Legendary picked up the rights to the film back in 2006; the studio's impressive CV features the likes of Superman Returns, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and upcoming epic Clash of the Titans - if anyone has a chance of adapting the MMORPG for the big screen while staying faithful to its source material, it's Legendary. And with Raimi's pedigree fans should be very excited indeed...
Filiming is likely to start after the director finishes Spider-Man 4, due in 2011 - so we could have to wait until 2012 until we can see a potential Warcraft blockbuster for ourselves.
